RYA Cruising Instructor Training

Start loving your job - become a sailing instructor!

Fastack South’s RYA Cruising Instructor course takes place over 5 days with 4 days being trained how to teach up to RYA Day Skipper level and 1 day with another trainer/moderator. You will need to already be a Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore to take this course which is the first level RYA teaching qualification. After successfully completing the course and assessment you will be qualified to teach RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper practical courses at any recognised RYA training centre.

At Fastack South this course is taught by our senior instructors, who have many years of experience teaching all levels of students from absolute beginners to Yachtmasters.
You will be taught varied teaching techniques to enable to make the most of the many different learning styles and enable you to get the very best out of your students.
You will learn how to plan your courses, make the most of all the training opportunities available as well as managing your time to ensure that you cover the whole RYA syllabus during a course.

During the Cruising Instructor course you will take part in role play situations where you will find out how it feels to be both the instructor and the student.

We often employ our ‘home taught’ newly qualified Cruising Instructors to teach in the school. You will be given the chance to consolidate your training and pick up tips by doubling up with one of our senior instructors for a RYA practical course. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience and kick start your career as a Cruising Instructor without incurring further training costs.
